It is the duty of Managers and Contract Managers to:

  • Review absences due to accidents due to accidents at work, and notify reportable occurrences.
  • Ensure that stocks of all first aid and safety equipment are maintained at a satisfactory level and shall ensure that adequate first aid and accident records are kept.
  • Co-operate fully with the Factory Inspectorate and/or the Mines and Quarries Inspectorate and ensure that all requirements are met.
  • Ensure that all maintenance work necessary to ensure safety and good health is carried out promptly and efficiently.
  • Regularly inspect the works site to ensure that the programme is being complied with, and make recommendations on all matters concerning health and safety.
  • Assist in the induction safety training of new employees and contractors where required.
  • Ensure that health data sheets are available.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the necessary up to date knowledge of legislation, codes of practise and other technical guidance notes, relating to activities of the company.
  • Fully familiarise themselves with the company health and safety policy.
  • Ensure that persons in their department are adequately trained and fully aware of any hazards in the department are adequately trained and fully aware of any hazards in the department or on site.
  • Make provision for the carrying out of risk assessments in their department or on site.
  • Continually develop safe practices in his/her department to ensure maximum safety for all under his supervision.
  • Investigate all accidents promptly to discover their causes and eliminate recurrences and report to the management to ensure that all safety rules are observed, and that protective equipment is worn or used where appropriate.
  • Ensure that all safety devices are always fitted and properly adjusted and maintained.
  • Ensure that all defects in his/her work place are promptly reported and rectified.
  • Maintain good housekeeping within his/her section or department at all times.
  • Seriously consider any representation about health and safety from other employees.
